How the campus tour handles your information

The Lanaar campus tour lets you explore the school’s new campus and dedicate gifts. This page explains what information the tour uses, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have.

In short

Who we are

The campus tour at lanaar.ai is run by Lanaar Academy (Lanaar Elementary School Inc), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 83-0962073). On this page, “the school”, “we” and “us” mean Lanaar Academy.

The tour shows the school’s new campus as a 360° tour and a 3D walk. Donors can choose furniture, tables or whole rooms to dedicate as gifts to the school.

What we collect and why

While you explore

The tour doesn’t ask who you are. Your browser keeps the gifts you choose on your device, with their quantities and any dedication words you type, so they’re still there when you come back. They aren’t sent to us until you email the director or pay by card.

The browser also keeps a few small notes: where you were in the tour and whether you’ve seen the opening film (until you close the tab), and whether you dismissed a tip in the 3D walk. The Your gifts page also keeps a reference to your last card checkout and its gifts, without your name or email address, to show you its status. Once a payment is confirmed, this browser also keeps a list of the gift under “Your dedications”: its name and room, the quantity, your words, the date and the payment’s reference (the same details are kept briefly while a payment is being confirmed). It holds no amounts, and no name or email beyond anything in your words; anyone using this browser can see it, and it stays until you choose “Forget this list” or clear the browser’s data. Forgetting keeps only an unreadable fingerprint of each payment reference, so an old confirmation page can’t add it back, and doesn’t change your last-checkout reference, the dedications in the tour or the school’s records.

If you email the director

The “Email the director to arrange your gift” button opens a draft in your own email app, addressed to the school’s director. It lists your gifts and dedication words, with your name, email address and note; a long list is downloaded as a file for you to attach. Nothing is sent unless you send it. You can also download the summary for yourself.

The director uses your email to reply and arrange your gift. Once it’s agreed, the school records the gift and its dedication, and when the gift is received, sends you a written acknowledgment.

If you pay by card

When you choose “Give securely with Stripe”, the school’s payment service receives your gifts and dedication words, your name, email address and note. It uses them to hold the pieces you chose while you pay, to record your dedication once Stripe confirms the payment, and to send your thank-you letter. The school may also use them to contact you about your gift.

The payment service saves these details when you start the card checkout. If you don’t finish paying, your name, email address, note and dedication words are deleted 30 days later. For 30 days it also keeps a scrambled code made from your network (IP) address, not the address itself, to stop anyone holding too many pieces at once.

When pages load

Like any website, the servers that deliver the tour see your device’s IP address and basic details of each request, such as the page asked for. The site and its payment service run on Microsoft Azure. The tour and the Your gifts page also ask the payment service for the latest dedications each time they open. On a device and browser that can use Apple Pay or Google Pay, the tour also asks it whether Express pay is available. When Your gifts shows your dedications, it also sends the payment service the payment references in that list, each at most once a day, to show whether each payment is confirmed, refunded or under review.

Only for your gift

We use your details only for your gift: to arrange it, to record its dedication and to send your thank-you letter. There are no mailing lists, and we don’t use your details for anything else.

What we don’t collect

Payments through Stripe

If card payment is ever paused, the Your gifts page offers the email option instead.

Card payments are processed by Stripe, a payment company. When you choose “Give securely with Stripe”, you move to Stripe’s own checkout page at checkout.stripe.com and enter your card details there. Your card number goes to Stripe and never reaches the school’s systems.

On a gift’s card in the tour, you can also give with Apple Pay or Google Pay (“Express pay”) without leaving the tour. On a device and browser that can use one of them, Stripe’s payment script loads from js.stripe.com when you start the tour or open a gift’s card, so the buttons are ready when a card opens, whether or not you give; the script may collect details about your device and set cookies to help prevent fraud, as Stripe’s privacy policy describes. In Chrome and some other browsers, checking whether Google Pay is available may also contact Google. If you give, your wallet asks you to confirm the gift and sends your card details to Stripe; they never reach the school. Your wallet also gives your name and email address: the card sends them to the school’s payment service, which records your gift and sends your thank-you letter, and they go to Stripe for your receipt.

The school sends Stripe only what the payment needs: the gifts you chose and their amounts, and your email address, where Stripe sends your receipt. With Apple Pay or Google Pay, that is the email address your wallet gives. Your dedication words and your note for the school aren’t sent to Stripe: they stay in the school’s own records. Stripe emails you a payment receipt, and the school can see your payment in its Stripe account.

After you pay, Stripe tells the school the name and email address you gave on its page and the amount paid. The school keeps them with your gift record.

If you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, on Stripe’s page or on a gift’s card, Apple or Google also handle that payment.

Stripe uses your information, and any cookies on its checkout page or from its payment script in the tour, as described in Stripe’s privacy policy.

Gifts and refunds

Gifts are donations to Lanaar Academy (Lanaar Elementary School Inc), and card gifts show on your statement as LANAAR ELEMENTARY. If a gift was made in error, email the director within 30 days and we’ll refund it, less the card processing fees (these aren’t returned to us); its dedication is then removed, and it is offered again. If a charge looks wrong, please contact us before your bank: Cmayzlesh@lanaarschool.org · 786-452-7132.

Card refunds go back through Stripe and usually reach your card in 5–10 business days. We keep a record that the gift was refunded.

Your thank-you letter

After a card gift, the payment service emails you a letter that thanks you and acknowledges your gift for tax purposes. It’s addressed to you by name and lists your gifts, dedication words and amounts, the date and a reference number.

It goes to the email address you gave on Stripe’s page, or the one in the gift form if Stripe has none. It comes from gifts@lanaar.ai and is sent through Azure Communication Services, Microsoft’s email service. It doesn’t track whether you open it or click its links, and replies go to the school’s director.

The payment service sends you no other email, and it keeps no mailing list.

Dedications shown in the tour

Once a gift is recorded, the dedication words you wrote appear in the tour next to the piece or room, where anyone who visits can read them. They appear as you wrote them, unless the school edits them (see below), so please include only what you’re happy for everyone to see.

Some words are held back for the school to review before they appear. The piece shows as dedicated in the meantime. The school may also edit the words shown in the tour, for example to correct a spelling, or take them down. It keeps the words you wrote with your gift record, and your thank-you letter shows them as you wrote them.

To change or remove a dedication, email the school’s director (see Contact us). Taking the words down doesn’t cancel your gift: the piece still shows as dedicated.

Anyone who visits can see, save or share what’s shown, so copies may exist that we can’t remove.

Children

This site is meant for adults. The gift form should be filled in by the adult making the gift. Exploring the tour doesn’t require anyone to give any information.

Students appear in our videos and pictures under the media permission parents give in Lanaar’s registration agreement.

Storage and how long we keep it

On your device

The gifts you choose stay in your browser until you remove them or clear this site’s data. Some browsers also clear saved site data on their own after a time without visits. The notes about where you were in the tour and the opening film clear when you close the tab.

The site keeps copies of its own pages and pictures on your device, so the tour opens faster and can work offline. These are the site’s own files, not information about you.

With the school

With Stripe

Stripe keeps its own records of your payment, as its privacy policy describes.
